The Role

Are you passionate about the development of solid electrolytes and advanced characterization? This position may be the perfect fit for you! We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to advance battery science and contribute to next-generation energy storage systems. This role is part of the Smart-Cbat project, funded by the Dutch National Growthfund, focusing on materials innovations for solid electrolytes in combination with silicon anodes. In collaboration with Dutch startups, universities will provide fundamental understanding and develop novel electrolytes, enhancing the anode components created by the startups.

The Role

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily focus on the design, synthesis, and characterization of promising sulfide and halide-based inorganic solid electrolytes for various silicon anode technologies. Synthesis will mainly utilize mechanochemical methods, while characterization will involve electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and X-ray/neutron scattering techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Design and synthesize sulfide and halide-based inorganic solid electrolytes.
  • Characterize materials using EIS, solid-state NMR, and X-ray/neutron scattering techniques.
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to research in battery technology.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field (completed by appointment).
  • Expertise in synthesizing sulfide and halide-based inorganic solid electrolytes, including EIS conductivity measurements.
  • Experience with solid-state NMR and X-ray/neutron scattering techniques for investigating structure-property relationships in battery materials.
  • Strong background in battery research with an interest in electrolyte materials and sustainable energy storage technologies.

What We Offer

  • A one-year contract with a workload of 36-40 hours per week.
  • Competitive salary and benefits according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
  • Excellent pension scheme via ABP.
  • Opportunities for education, training, and courses.
  • Flexible working arrangements and 232 leave hours annually.
  • Support for relocation to the Netherlands, including assistance from the Coming to Delft Service.

If you are driven by curiosity and eager to work with cutting-edge experimental techniques, we encourage you to apply. Your application will be given fair consideration.
