About ASML

Who are we?

ASML is an innovation leader in the global semiconductor industry. We make machines that chipmakers use to mass produce microchips. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands with just a handful of employees, we’ve now grown to over 40,000 employees, 143 nationalities and more than 60 locations around the world.

What do we do?

We provide chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography. Our lithography systems use ultraviolet light to create billions of tiny structures on silicon that together make up a microchip. We push our technology to new limits to enable our customers to create smaller, faster and more powerful chips.

Who are our people?

While you may think that only engineers and mathematicians work at ASML, you'll be surprised to find out that our people come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Across ASML, we have dedicated teams that manage customer support, communications and media, IT, software development and more. Every team in the company is essential for pushing our technology and the industry forward.

If you love to tackle challenges and innovate in a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment with all the flexibility and freedom to unleash your full potential, ASML is the place to be.

The Role

The Actuator Tooling team at ASML is dedicated to developing high-precision actuators for advanced lithography systems, focusing on enhancing efficiency, repeatability, and safety in both development and manufacturing. In this internship, you'll investigate how collaborative robots can aid in actuator prototyping and production, contributing to the future of automation at ASML. This internship is based in Veldhoven.

The Role

You will join a multidisciplinary team focused on integrating collaborative robots into high-precision environments, addressing real challenges in actuator design and manufacturing. Your work will involve hands-on concepts, experiments, and evaluations that inform future industrial applications.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting requirements from stakeholders concerning safety, performance, and interfaces.
  • Designing concepts for cobot-supported actuator tasks.
  • Developing and validating a cobot-enabled application.
  • Assessing feasibility regarding accuracy, cycle time, ergonomics, and risks.
  • Conducting experiments to verify precision, repeatability, and robustness.
  • Analyzing results and providing clear recommendations.
  • Creating a roadmap for potential industrialization of the solution.

This internship is available for Bachelor or Master students for a minimum of 6 months, 5 days a week (3 days on-site), starting as early as September 2026.

Requirements

To qualify for this internship, you should:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, systems and control, or industrial automation.
  • Enjoy hands-on work and exploring robotics in high-precision settings.
  • Have skills in mechanical or robotic concept development.
  • Be experienced with 3D computer-aided design software.
  • Be collaborative and comfortable working with diverse technical stakeholders.

This position requires access to controlled technology as defined by the United States Export Administration Regulations. Candidates must be legally authorized to access such technology before starting work. ASML may prioritize candidates who can immediately access controlled technology.

ASML is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce. We recruit, hire, train, and promote individuals without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
